I read an article on bigthink.com today called The Importance of Positive Thinking. The article was talking about young children around 5-years-old and how at this early age they can tell the difference from negative experiences versus positive experiences and how their parents deal with the day-to-day things can impact the way they see themselves in how they deal with the day-to-day as they grow.
The article explained how pessimism and optimism are traits taken as an adult characteristic because personality development is still forming in young children.
What I gained from this article was the importance of how we react to situations, even the not so positive ones, in a positive manner, especially around out children. Positive thinking isn't a moment-to-moment deal, it's a life-style and the benefits are worth it. Less stress and being able to cope better when things aren't going the way we wish them to be. By modeling positive reactions to all of life's situations for our children can really help to make a difference in their emotional lives years down the road.
